Enjoy a ride on Puffing Billy Steam Railway, Australia’s oldest steam railway and one of the finest preserved steam railways in the world. Travel 24 kilometres through the beautiful forests and fern gullies of the Dandenong Ranges from Belgrave. Puffing Billy is the last of the experimental narrow-gauge railway lines built at the turn of the 20th century, and easily accessible by public transport from Melbourne.
We start early this morning as we drive out to the beautiful rainforest in Victoria. As we journey out through Melbourne’s eastern suburbs you will see in the distance some amazing views of the Dandenongs, the beautiful mountain ranges just a short drive out of Melbourne.
As we arrive at Grant’s Reserve, located in the heart of the Dandenong Mountains, you’ll be in awe by the wondrous surrounding mountain hue and the fresh clear air. After a quick stop for Morning Tea you have some time to stroll around the place with an opportunity to handfeed some of the most beautiful Australian Birds found in the region, like pink-chested Galah, Crimson Rosella, Sulphur-crested Cockatoo and more.
After some fun with the birds, we now head to Belgrave, which is home of the famous Puffing Billy Steam Train. This Century-old steam train system is still in operation in its original state and will take you back in time as you board the train for a half hour ride through the rainforest.
After the heritage train ride, we now head off to Yarra Valley , Victoria’s premium wine growing region. We visit two to three different leading wineries in the region for some wine tasting and education.
